George Metkovich, CPA

George Metkovich, CPA

George became a partner in 2012 after joining the firm 2010 as a manager. George began his career at a gaming corporation as an internal auditor where he performed operational and compliance audits of casinos for Nevada and Indian casinos. He later moved to public accounting where he conducted compliance and financial audits for Nevada and Indian casinos. As financial statement audit partner, George is responsible for the financial and compliance audits of benefit plans and casinos. He also performs and manages internal audits and Title 31 compliance audits for many of our casino clients. George has instructed seminars on compliance issues and provides leadership to our younger staff and helps them develop technical and personal skills. George is passionate about golfing, the Cowboys, and staying in shape. One of his goals in life is to spoil his two nephews.

Alycia Wilkinson

Background
One of the foundations of our firm is the healthy relationship we have with our clients. Alycia serves as the face of the firm and as the primary contact for our clients. She maintains the relationships we already have and builds new relationships with new clients. The daily business liaison of the firm, she is responsible for the satisfaction of our customers and employees. Alycia began working for the firm in 2001 as an administrative assistance, served as the firm’s office manager, then was promoted to Director of Client Relationships. After years of hard work and dedication to the firm, she was made a partner in 2011. She instills honesty, dependability, integrity, and hard work into every aspect of her daily routine, with the satisfaction of our clients and employees her centermost objective. While working for the firm, Alycia earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and has passed all parts of the CPA exams and is currently awaiting licensure.

Interesting Fact

Background
Gemma received her degree from an internationally recognized university in South Korea where she was the recipient of several university academic merit scholarships. She attended Texas Tech University for a year as an international student to immerse herself in an English speaking culture.

Gemma became a partner in 2012 after joining the firm as an associate in 2008. She is experienced with complex aspects of gaming and Tribal government issues and acts as team leader in the supervision of financial and compliance audits for several casinos, tribes, and tribal enterprises. She has also presented several seminars concerning a range of audit and regulatory matters to casino employees, Tribal members, and our employees.

Gemma recently embarked on the lifetime adventure of raising a child and often regales the office with stories of her toddler and the nonsensical things she does.

Ryan Burns, CPA

Ryan Burns, CPA

Background
Ryan started at the firm in 1998 after earning his degree. The backbone of the firm, he gained majority ownership in 2008 with Sheryl and became managing partner. Ryan currently manages the compliance and financial audits for some of the largest and most diverse tribal organizations in the country and has almost twenty years of experience in auditing Tribal governments and enterprises. He has worked within the firm to establish the most effective and efficient audit procedures for the performance of the compliance audit and Program Specific Audits for Tribal Governments.

In addition to performing audit and review engagements, Ryan has also performed numerous other consulting and attestation engagements for Tribes. Some of these projects include assistance with the placement of taxable and tax-exempt debt instruments, financing comfort letters, fraud examinations, financial reporting, employee exit reviews, consultation and audit for employee benefit plans, and review of internal control systems.

On an annual basis, Ryan attends the AICPA Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update and maintains the required education credits to perform audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards issued by the GAO. He has also provided training for Tribal Councils and Tribal Gaming Commissions, financial institutions, and accounting students at the University of Nevada, Reno on topics such as governmental accounting and auditing, tribal-state gaming compact accounting issues, net win accounting, and audit issues specific to tribal governments.

Ryan promotes financial literacy for grade school children through his work with Junior Achievement in Northern Nevada.

Interesting Fact
He can often be found at games for the Reno Aces, UNR football and basketball, and his children’s numerous sporting events. Ryan is a workout enthusiast, enjoys golf, outdoor activities like skiing and running, and looks forward to his family vacations every year. He also plays a mean game of ping pong.

Background
Sheryl has over 25 years of professional experience in public accounting, casino accounting, and consulting. Much of her career prior to joining the firm was with a regional accounting firm and at the Controller’s Office of the State of Nevada. At the regional firm she performed auditing work for several Nevada casinos as an outsourced internal auditor. Sheryl also supervised the gaming revenue audit and the currency transaction reporting function for a large Nevada casino. She has been working for the firm since 1999, shortly after its inception. In 2008, she gained majority ownership with Ryan and has since been a cornerstone of the firm.

Sheryl manages financial and compliance gaming audits and oversees internal control assessments. She is knowledgeable about the operation and compliance of a large variety of gaming machine and player tracking systems, and related revenue audit procedures for poker, pari-mutuel, keno, pull-tabs, bingo, and table games. Sheryl is also proficient in gaming machine analysis and online gaming machine systems. She has been recommended by various vendors to perform consulting on their online gaming systems due to her extensive operational knowledge of their systems (Oasis, IGT, Konami, Ballys, etc.).

Sheryl has been a key player in several fraud engagements exposing embezzlement schemes in the online reporting systems in three separate gaming properties involving millions of dollars. Sheryl also investigated revenue recognition errors with the online reporting systems determining the sources and subsequently pinpointing remedies. In addition to auditing and fraud engagements, Sheryl performs a wide variety of consulting engagements for our clients, drawing on her gaming background to assist them in developing cage accountability worksheets, training revenue auditors, writing or revising internal control documents, and managing on-property gaming machine system conversions.
